The Finished Entertainment Center
Well, I’m finally back from Tennessee. It was a great load off my mind to get the entertainment center installed and this project behind me. All the components had to be carried up to the third floor of the house, but I had it installed and done in about a day and a half. I also installed rope lighting behind the crown molding on top, but forgot to turn it on for the pictures. We put a 50″ plasma TV into it with the cable box, DVD player, and the surround sound system sitting behind the glass doors under the TV. This thing is so long that I couldn’t get it all into one shot.
From Small to Big
It’s difficult to shift gears between small items such as cutting boards and lazy susans to a 19 foot long entertainment center, but I’m working through it. This thing almost takes up the length of my small shop when assembled. I’ve been dividing my time between this project and increasing my inventory for an upcoming March show. I work on the entertainment center for a week and then take a few days and crank out crafts. Then it’s back on the center.
This entertainment center will only stand 53” tall because it will fit under a sloped ceiling in an upstairs family room. It kind of feels like I am working on doll house furniture. The construction is very close to completion and will be painted white before I install it. The raised panel doors have taken the longest amount of time because of all the gluing and sanding. There will be a 50” flat screen TV sitting on the two low cabinets, and crown molding will finish out the top. Not shown, will also be a 36” desk top at the very end of the run for my customer’s kids to use. I’ll put up pictures of the final installed project when I get to that point. I have to deliver and install it in a house in Knoxville, Tennessee, so I hope I can get the whole thing in my trailer.

The bottom opening on the two left cabinets will be drawers.

Wet Man Cave
I blogged a while back about a basement remodel I worked on for a couple of months, but never posted a picture of the final product because I kept forgetting to take my camera with me. Well, I finally got an opportunity to get back over there the other day, and this time I took my camera. This room was like a dungeon that contained nothing but piled up junk. Now it is a “Man Cave” with a bar, 65” TV and surround sound system.
During all the rain in September, the customer’s ground got so saturated that water started coming into the basement through a cinder block wall. To show how much rain he actually got, the customer has lived there for 30 years and the basement has never flooded. Fortunately, the water only got into the front half, soaking the carpet and baseboard trim. All the custom cabinetry I built is located at the rear of the room and was not affected. After running a dehumidifier for about a week, it was dry enough to put the trim and carpet back in place.

The square bookcase out in the room is a wrap around, four-sided bookcase, that hides a 4″ diameter pole. The stone wall was a bare cinder block wall that we covered with stone veneer.

Closets and Rain
I had to change gears this week and get back into “closet” mode with Closet Dreams. I spent all day Monday fabricating the material for a walk in closet project. Today, I drove up to Alpharetta in the rain to install it. It took me about two hours to get there. Then I drove all the way back in an even harder rain this afternoon. I’m glad its over because having back to back shows over the last two weeks and then a large installation today has just about wore me out. I need some recharging.
No, your eyes are not deceiving you. Everything in this room is pink.

I don’t know what I am going to do tomorrow because it is the first day in the past two months that I haven’t had anything important to do. Some friends and I had planned to play golf, but with all the rain today the course will be too wet and muddy for my taste. I guess I will clean up my shop because it is a mess right now.
